Gojurn Progress Update I

A few weeks ago the Gojurnal went on a hiatus while we focused on some big upcoming changes. While the biggest changes aren’t here yet, we do have some big announcements. Read on to see what they are.

The Future Home of the Gojurnal

All future Gojurnal activity (articles and announcements) will be posted here on Gojurn.Com and Gojurnal.Com will be retired. We’re doing this to make it easier for you to get updates and news from us online. It will give us the opportunity to focus on creating a more enjoyable and consistent experience for everyone instead of spreading efforts too thin across multiple websites. All of you deserve the best possible experience and this change will help us deliver that.

A Taste of Things to Come

Now, the biggest news by far.

For the last six months, we’ve talked a lot about the productivity power of lists, how we use recommendations online, as well as the historical and social threads that tie these two topics together.

It’s no secret that the world of online recommendations is in a bad place.

Untrustworthy and paid reviews, disorienting advertising that keeps you from making a decision, and of course no great way to keep track of the recommendations you work so hard to uncover. All of these things have really put a damper on what should be a faster and more interesting experience.

Isn’t it about time for a better way to discover recommendations?

A way that’s personalized, timely, and honest?

That’s why we’re happy to announce the upcoming release of the Gojurn app.

While full details will be available in late August 2016, we’re able to give you a sneak peek today.

A More Human Way to Search

Through our research, we’ve discovered the biggest pain of seeking out recommendations online has to do with the search experience. Endless results, chaotic, and drowning in ads. It’s disorienting and it's why it takes so long to find something to do. Gojurn lets you skip that and connects you directly to others that can point you in the right direction. No ads or chaos, just organized, honest, and fast recommendations from your peers in the area.

And if you’re looking for inspiration you’re covered there too. You can see what other people are asking about, what recommendations they’re getting, and also view intriguing lists crafted by locals, experts, and users just like you.

You’ll be amazed at how much faster this is compared to your traditional search experience.

Recommendations You Can Trust

But recommendations aren’t just about how you get them but also about who you get them from. Normally when you read a review or rely on a rating online it comes from a stranger (or an aggregation of strangers) that may or may not care about the same things as you do. A great spot for one person may be a miserable one for another. Gojurn solves this problem by matching user questions with users that can answer them but who also share interests and tastes. This ensures the recommendations you receive are personalized to fit you. When you get a recommendation it’s for you, not just the person providing it.

This matching system comes with the added advantage of providing more trustworthy recommendations. Because recommendations are sourced from like-minded peers matched by the app it makes it very difficult for paid or dishonest recommendations to end up in front of you.

Your Want-To-Do List

With so many awesome ideas you’re going to need somewhere to organize them all. Gojurn has got your back (even for things you discover off the app). Effortlessly add and save great recommendations you come across, see what’s around you from across all of your lists with the push of a button, and quickly pull up directions along with all other relevant details for the things you’ve saved. Gojurn handles the organization and the details, all you need to do is enjoy yourself.

Bound for Berkeley

To coincide with the release of the Gojurn app, the Gojurnal will shift its focus to our first area of release: Berkeley.

What this means is that the Gojurnal’s traditional article topics will instead be focused on recommendations related to Berkeley. This temporary shift is designed to help us open and maintain a line of communication with the Berkeley community that should help improve Gojurn so that it’s better for everybody in the long run.

Thank you so much for joining us on this journey of discovery for these last few months. We’re looking forward to what the future brings and hope you can come along.

If you’d like to try Gojurn early or be notified when it’s ready you can sign up here.
